You know the feeling; you spent months making your living room the ideal place to sit. You referred back to all the latest decor trends when you were buying your couches You may have even waited months for the ideal sofa to ship from who knows where. But still, no one ever uses your seating area!
When this happens, it can fast become frustrating. All that time and money feels as though it’s gone to waste. Your family spend their days up in their bedrooms, and your friends stick to the kitchen instead. The good news is, you’re not alone in this struggle. Many of us find our living room sofa setups don’t get any use. Sometimes, it’s merely a case of practicality. If no one goes in the room, then, of course, those sofas won’t get used. Sometimes, though, there are more pressing issues keeping people from parking it. Are you guilty of any of these?
You don’t use the room yourself
The first thing you’ll need to consider is whether you sit on those sofas yourself. This probably won’t dictate how often your family sit on your couches. But, it could make a huge difference when it comes to friends. It’s all too easy to get into the habit of ‘kitchen hosting’. You offer them a cup of tea. They say yes and follow you in as you make it. And, unless you lead the way into the living room, you soon find yourselves sitting at the kitchen table for the duration. So, try to make a concentrated effort to lead guests into your living room from now on. It may be that there’s nothing wrong with your sofa setup itself, but more an issue with your efforts to use it.
Your couches aren’t comfortable
Or, you might find that your sofas don’t get used no matter how much you encourage it. Does your man sit at the kitchen table when you attempt to lure him onto the couch? Do guests hover awkwardly no matter how often you tell them to sit down? If yes, it may be that your sofa just isn’t comfortable. As with any of your decor designs, you’re likely bias here. As such, you may think it’s the most comfortable seat in the world. But, others obviously don’t share the opinion. In this instance, you’ll want to either get a complete replacement, or add some comfortable extras like these beanbags. That way, you can at least be sure that there’s somewhere for others to feel comfortable.
They just don’t look appealing
Let us not forget that appearances also count. If your seating area doesn’t look appealing, then it’s less likely to get used. You can tackle this by incorporating rugs, throws, and cushions. These can brighten up the space and make it feel comfortable. And, you can guarantee that’ll encourage more people to make use of it. Think about adding as many different colors as possible here to ensure the area catches everyone’s eyes.
See you next time!
