Picture it! (I sooo said that in my best Sophia from Golden Girls voice) It’s icy cold outside, and slightly misty. The day is fading to dusk, and all you can think about is making a steamy mug of rich hot cocoa to warm your body and soothe your soul!
Hot Cocoa is always my go-to winter treat, but around the holidays, I like to make an extra special cup of minty sweet Peppermint Hot Chocolate! One of my family’s traditions at holiday time is to sit around in pajamas, enjoying the fire, and our mint cocoa! I’m sharing my favorite two best peppermint hot chocolate recipes below: one easy, and one that takes a little more work, but is totally worth it! Leave me a comment and let me know if you try it!
Make this delicious holiday treat for your friends and loved ones, with less work! Serve with a peppermint stick.
- 1/3 cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
- 1 quart Milk
- 1/2 cup Semisweet Chocolate Chips (3 oz)
- 7 Peppermint Sticks; 3 crushed, 4 left whole
- pinch Salt
-
Place cocoa in a medium saucepan. Gradually whisk in milk until cocoa has dissolved.
-
Add chocolate chips and crushed peppermint; simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally until chocolate and peppermint have melted.
-
Bring to a boil and immediately remove from heat. Add salt. Ladle into mugs; serve each with peppermint sticks.
The best holiday hot chocolate ever! Makes 4 servings. If serving 4, make a 2nd batch! You'll want another cup!
- 1 cup Chilled Heavy Whipping Cream, Divded
- 2 tbsp Granulated Sugar + 1 tsp Granulated Sugar
- 2 cups Whole Milk
- 4 oz Bittersweet (preferably 60% cocoa) chocolate, coarsely chopped
- 1/4 tsp Peppermint Extract
- 4 Small Candy Canes (For Garnish)
-
Beat 12 cup cream and 1 tsp sugar in bowl until soft peaks form. Cover; chill.
-
Whisk 1/2 cup cream, 2 TBSP sugar, and milk in medium saucepan over medium-high heat; bring to boil. Remove from heat.
-
Add chocolate; whisk until smooth. Whisk in extract.
-
Divide chocolate among mugs. Top with cream and garnish with candy canes!

I love hot chocolate for the season! I can sip it after 5’oclock and still be able to make it to bed at a decent time. I love coffee but it keeps me awake ? I’ll have to bring these up with my aunt, anything peppermint and she’s all over it.

It’s getting cold here in California and I’m always looking for different hot drinks. Peppermint hot chocolate is one of my favs – about time I stop going to Starbucks and make it at home to save money.
