Hey Socialites! Y’all know I am beauty obsessed, so I’m always willing to try a new product and see if it can become a staple in my collection. I recently received a complimentary bottle of CoverGirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation in shade Tawny for my review. You guys have seen enough pictures of me to know I’m not anywhere near Tawny in skin color, so I will not be posting photos of myself wearing this product! LOL. What I will do is give you my unbiased opinion, and as always, my Socialite rating!
CoverGirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation is billed as being a “hydrating, vitamin infused formula with a special antioxidant and vitamin complex” to benefit skin. Also has SPF. Now…on to my review!
Great Bottle!
The pump is easy to use and the product comes out smoothly. You get a good amount of foundation per pump, and I was able to cover my entire face with one pumps worth. For reference, I use a Beauty Blender to apply to my face, and the mini foundation brush pictured below (for under my eyes)
Good Texture
CoverGirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation has a really good consistency. I’ve tried some products in the past that were very runny (MAC) and some that had a whipped texture that I didn’t really care for. The formula has good “body” to it, but feels weightless when applied.
Great Coverage
Even though this bottle of CoverGirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation was not the right shade for my skin tone, I could still see that it provides good coverage. I have dark circles under my nose, and large pores on my nose, and I felt that this product provided full coverage for my problem areas!
Lack of Glow
CoverGirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation isn’t billed as a matte foundation, but it kinda looks like one. I didn’t get the dewy effect that I love with this product. In all fairness I will say that because the bottle I tested was not the correct shade, it may have affected the look of the product on my skin.
Lack of shade selection
Per the official CoverGirl website, there are 11 shades to choose from for fairer skin tones, and only 3 shades for darker skin. I have to say that this is a huge disappointment for me. There are other drugstore brands that have taken into consideration the fact that there needs to be more variety for darker skin tones, but also that people of color have unique undertones that can affect how foundation looks when applied to the skin (see:L’Oréal Paris True Match Super-Blendable Makeup ) Cover Girl needs to provide darker shades with all of their foundation lines, and not just for specialized collections.
All in all, I was pretty satisfied with the CoverGirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation (wrong shade and all) as it does what it’s supposed to do, which is to provide good, even coverage. The price point is very good and on the lower end of the spectrum for drugstore brands. I’m going to have the subtract a few points for the poor shade selection…that was a huge buzzkill. I also didn’t find the product to be as moisturizing as described, but maybe the skincare benefits come with continued use. Socialite Rating: 6.0/10

Thanks for sharing this review, Amber! I feel as though drug store foundations have gotten so much better in recent years and reviews are helpful since they are not as easily “sampled” as the prestige brands at Sephora and Ulta.

I love reading reviews with pros & cons! I’ve seen this at CVS and was wondering about it. That brush looks amazing too! I’ll def be looking for the #NOFILTER by Nyx next time I’m at the drug store. xx Shannon || http://www.champagneatshannons.com
