Sign up for weather alerts

First things first, you’re going to want to sign up for weather alerts. The built-in weather apps that most phones have won’t warn you of bad weather such as severe thunderstorms. Apps such as the weather channel however will notify you when bad weather is headed your way. Also, depending on where you live, you may receive alerts within your community of the weather. This can include popup notifications, texts, emails, and even calls. In general, you’re going to want to stay notified ahead of time before it’s too late.

Gather all needed supplies

Since no one ever truly knows when bad weather will strike, it’s important to stay prepared whenever it does happen. That way, you’ll be completely ready to handle the bad weather from home. Depending on the weather situation and the aftermath, there may be a chance of your neighborhood going without electricity, water, and other necessities.  It’s very important to stay a step ahead. Other things you may want to do can include creating a checklist of what to do and how to prepare during bad weather with your family. Another vital tip would include having a storm of bad weather kit. This kit would include items such as a first aid kit, bottled water, non-perishable food items, flashlights, and a power bank for your phone. You should keep everything in a watertight container to ensure that no dampness can reach the inside of it.

Figure out where the safest room at home is

When it comes to your home, there should at least be one room that is considered the safest compared to the other rooms. This should be the room where your household will go. Since you want to keep your family safe, you’ll need to choose wisely where this room will be.  Ideally, you would want to choose a basement or cellar but not all homes have these. Is there a room in your home that has windows or at least very few windows? The bathroom tends to be a go-to spot as this is a room that tends to have no windows or very small ones. But in general, you’ll just need to pick a spot that doesn’t have any doors or windows to the outside.
